Waves and bodies of water have a magical calming effect on people. Looking at water helps us think, relax, and meditate. In reality of urban life, the next best thing to an actual beach is a painting of one. The WAVES art series focus exactly on that! Oksana attempts to bring the beauty of the ocean to an urban home.

A Splash of Emerald is the first painting in the series. Oksana drew inspiration for this wave painting from her trip to Savannah, Georgia. The sea takes on many colors, and Oksana shows it with bold greens and pastel blues. In this painting, a single wave is rolling toward the shore. It is captured moments before crashing into the sand. The main focus of the painting is inside the curving wave. It’s shown with bold green color and guides the viewer’s eye towards the foaming edge of the wave. The sandy shore is covered in loosely painted sea foam. In the background, smaller blue waves calm down the rest of the composition, and once again guide the viewer’s eye towards the action of the crashing wave.

This artwork was created with acrylic paint on stretched cotton canvas. It is 36 inch wide, 24 inch tall, and 0.75 inch thick. The sides of the canvas are painted, so the artwork can be hanged as is or framed for a more impactful look. The painting is not varnished. Artist’s name and year when painted is signed on the front. This painting would look great on the mantle of a fireplace or can be the center piece of a dining room.

It’s rather curious how ocean can be volatile and full of chaos, and at the same time remain still and calming. Oksana tries to capture this beautiful contrast of chaos and calmness in her paintings. There is no calm without chaos.
